Persimmon helps extend youth support into the community
Housebuilder Persimmon Homes has made a four-figure donation to help youth workers in Aylesbury Vale reach further into their local community.
In response to the first lockdown last year, Youth Concern launched its first ever outreach service. Local 13-25 year olds were welcome to prebook 1:1 appointments with youth workers, but with Covid safe measures reducing the number of people able to visit the Drop-in Centre on Whitehill Lane, the charity stepped out into the streets!
CEO Hannah Asquith explained: “Before the pandemic young people in crisis or in need could call into our Drop-in Centre Tuesday – Friday, noon-6pm. They knew that they’d be safe and unjudged and would be able to talk to a youth worker or counsellor, play table tennis or pool, use the music recording studio or just spend time catching up with friends.”
Since August, Youth Concern’s staff have targeted areas where young people gather to raise awareness of the charity’s services – and the fact that support is still available. The donation from Persimmon has underpinned this vital work.
Persimmon Homes North London sales director Rachel Faulkner said: “Covid has affected all of us, but the hardest hit generation must be young people. School, college, university, employment, safe accommodation – many of the props our young people rely on have been taken away. We are proud that our donation is supporting Youth Concern’s service expansion growing, and that we’re helping to sustain their vital service through these difficult times.”
The donation has been made as part of Persimmon’s Community Campions programme, in which the company supports two good causes every month in each of its regions.
