Here are some things young people say about Youth Concern: our people, the services we offer and the difference we make to them.
‘Thinking of being homeless puts you down completely. They give you a lot of hope in here. You feel really supported. They speak to you about your problems. You have a feeling nothing is going to go wrong’
‘I was homeless at the time, I didn’t like to say I had problems. I was getting depressed. It helped me to cope with my emotions, talking to people, knowing I’m not on my own.’
‘You can talk about anything that’s on your mind. I trust them, that’s a massive thing for me. They’ve never let me down.
When I’ve been in crisis, they’ve helped me through that. They’ve literally saved my life.’
‘When I need the support it’s there. They’ve helped with financial stuff and housing. They are good people just to sit there and listen.’
‘If there’s anything bothering me I can just come here and do what I do. I do hip-hop and rap music and produce my own music. It feels good to have a place with people I can turn to. My confidence is getting better, especially with doing the music and talking to the people that work here.’
‘It’s challenging to get the support needed from the Council. That’s not the fault of Youth Concern more just how it works. With the Job Centre as well, they helped with forms, and whatever they think of that will be helpful claiming benefits.’
‘Youth Concern helped set me up with an experience at a building site. I’m in a trial period, learning new skills, I’m a quick learner and motivated, that’s a normal thing for me. I’ve met a lot of new people, just generally feel better.’
