We place great importance on hearing about the changing needs and perspectives of our young people, and so routinely check in with them to make sure we’re doing the right things.

Here are some things young people say about Youth Concern: our people, the services we offer and the difference we make to them.

“Thinking of being homeless puts you down completely. They give you a lot of hope in here. You feel really supported. They

speak to you about your problems. You have a feeling nothing is going to go wrong”

(V, young person)

“I was homeless at the time, I didn’t like to say I had problems. I was getting depressed. It helped me to cope with my emotions,

talking to people, knowing I’m not on my own”

(M, young person)

“You can talk about anything that’s on your mind. I trust them, that’s a massive thing for me. They’ve never let me down.

When I’ve been in crisis, they’ve helped me through that. They’ve literally saved my life”

(C, young person)

“When I need the support it’s there. They’ve helped with financial stuff and housing. They are good people just to sit there

and listen”

(T, young person)

“If there’s anything bothering me I can just come here and do what I do. I do hip-hop and rap music and produce my own

music. It feels good to have a place with people I can turn to. My confidence is getting better, especially with doing the music

and talking to the people that work here”

(J, young person)

“It’s challenging to get the support needed from the Council. That’s not the fault of Youth Concern more just how it works.

With the Job Centre as well, they helped with forms, and whatever they think of that will be helpful claiming benefits”

(V, young person)

“Youth Concern helped set me up with an experience at a building site. I’m in a trial period, learning new skills, I’m a quick

learner and motivated, that’s a normal thing for me. I’ve met a lot of new people, just generally feel better”

(M, young person)

“They supported me with housing, finding accommodation and work, putting together a plan to move on and have my own

place. They give options, not just saying you’ve got to find a job. I’ve been getting practical tips and experience for interviews

(M, young person)

“I learn something new every time I come in here”

(T, young person).

We stand apart from other youth support agencies because the support we offer is informal, flexible, responsive and designed to meet individual need at a pace which is right for each young person.
