The Value of Small in a Big Crisis: the distinctive contribution, value and experience of smaller charities in England and Wales during the COVID 19 pandemic by Lloyd’s Bank Foundation found:

Smaller charities “showed up and stuck around” playing a key role in supporting people and communities throughout the pandemic in a way that public services could not.

Small and local charities have demonstrated tremendous energy, flexibility, and professionalism in responding to COVID-19.

They found multiple ways to maintain human contact using the trusted relationships they already had, particularly in disadvantaged neighbourhoods, communities of faith or ethnicity and people experiencing poor mental health.
